Hong Kong has achieved a high standard of road safety, thanks to the generous financial and manpower support of several key partners.  The Road Safety Council receives its principal funding from the Government via the Transport and Housing Bureau (THB).  We are also indebted to the generosity of private companies, organisations and multi-national corporations who kindly sponsor our publications and activities.

Each year, the Road Safety Campaign Committee is responsible for deciding the Council’s goals in the year ahead and ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet those targets.  This includes making forecasts of critical issues based on statistics from the Transport Department, planning new campaigns and proposing programmes designed for specific target audiences.  Proposals are then submitted to the Council for endorsement and funds allocated by the THB are also distributed to the Police and Transport Department as necessary.  To ensure the Council operates responsibly, all expenditure is carefully reviewed to ensure it remains within appropriate limits.

The Government’s central publicity arm, the Information Services Department, offers valuable support to the Council.  A number of other Government departments, in partnership with the private sector, also actively support our campaigns by organising and funding road safety educational programmes of their own via exhibitions and other promotions.

The Hong Kong Road Safety Association (HKRSA) plays a unique role in promoting road safety.  In 2006/07, the Government’s annual subvention of the HKRSA amounted to $507,000.  These valuable funds help offset administrative costs, as well as expenses related to uniforms and equipment.
