Smart Cyclist Got Talent 2010

Recently cycling becomes not only a leisure sport but it also becomes an event that encompasses health, skill, social and fashion.

Most of the cycling accidents happened on the road involved delivery person. ‘Lost of balance’, ‘riding downhill too fast’, and ‘insufficient skill’, etc. contribute to most of the cycling accidents on the cycling tracks.  Cyclists overlook the importance of protective gears; and to promote safe cycling, Police Traffic Headquarter, Road Safety Council, Shatin District Council (Working Group on Road Safety), Road Safety Patrol and Road Safety Traffic New Territories South jointly organized a safe cycling promotion event at the Shatin Amphitheatre on 2010-08-22 named “Smart Cyclist Got Talent 2010”.  We were honored to have Mr. Yu Kam Kee B.B.S., J.P., Mr. Cheng Chor Kwong (Shatin District Councilor), District Commander of Shatin Police District, Mr. Richard Morgan, Acting Chief Superintendent of Traffic Branch Headquarters, Mr. Chan Ka Kit, Acting Superintendent of Traffic NTS, Mr. J.P. Woolcott Brown, and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Road Safety Patrol Mr. Tony Cheung to be our guests of honor.

The theme of the event was safe cycling.  Messages on cycling safety, cycling regulations, causes of cycling accidents, and in particular messages on wearing safety helmet and obeying road regulations as ordinary drivers do, were disseminated through games participated by members of the Hong Kong All Star Sports Association Limited Soccer Team and movie stars such as Mr. Dennis To, Miss Rose Chan, etc. The number of participants had reached a high of about 1,000 people and the hot weather did not diminish the enthusiasm of the participants.

The event reached its climax when Assistant Road Safety Officer of Traffic NTS SSGT Marco Wong led over 100 cyclists on stage to pledge the promotion of safe cycling.

The event came to a perfect ending after Acting SSP T NTS Mr. J.P. Woolcott Brown led about 100 cyclists to disseminate safety cycling messages from the Shatin Amphitheatre to the Pak Shek Kok Promenade where the event concluded.
