The Road Safety Council 40th Anniversary Ceremony
The Road Safety Council (RSC) celebrated its 40th anniversary at a ceremony held on November 3 in the Discovery Park Shopping Centre in Tsuen Wan.
The ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Transport and Housing Professor CHEUNG Bing-leung, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and RSC Chairman Mr LO Wai-chung, and two RSC Ambassadors (Ms Nancy SIT and Ms Kandy WONG).
Professor CHEUNG noted that the RSC was established in 1973 to coordinate territory-wide road safety publicity in Hong Kong. This includes liaising with involved governmant departments, organizing educational and promotional activities in districts, engaging in road design and participating in traffic management, legislation and law enforcement. In 2012, the total no. of fatal traffic accident cases was 116 which was the second lowest since 1955.
A supporting two day exhibition displayed historical posters and pictures, showcasing the contribution made by the RSC over the past 40 years. There was great interest in a display of current and veteran police motorcycles, which showed the evolution of police motorcycles since 1940s. A balloon booth, magic booth, mini-film, and photo kiosks proved to be very popular.
Entertainment was provided by Ms Kandy Wong and Ms Nancy Sit, sang the new version of the road safety theme song for the first time. In addition, Ms Kandy Wong, Ms Nancy Sit, DJ Bob and 3 Think performed a live drama promoting elderly pedestrian safety. Other celebrities including Mr Anthony LUN, C All Star, Ms Corinna CHAMBERLAIN, Ms Shiga LIN and magician Kevin promoted the road safety message.
