Bus parade brings road safety message to the elderly

As the elderly pedestrian accounted for a considerable portion of casualties in traffic accidents in recent years, “Elderly Road Safety Campaign Kick-off Ceremony cum Bus Parade in Yuen Long 2014” was jointly organized by Road Safety Council, Traffic Branch Headquarters, New Territories North Traffic Headquarters , Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, Yuen Long District Council and Senior Police Call on 2nd May 2014 at Yuen Long Theatre to promote Elderly Pedestrian Safety with a view to remind the elderly to use road crossing facilities and obey traffic legislations

The event was officiated by Dr Eric CHENG, the Chairman of the Road Safety Campaign Committee (RSCC); Mr MAK Chun-yu, District Officer (Yuen Long); Mr Martin CADMAN, Senior Superintendent, New Territories North Traffic Headquarters; Mr WONG Wai-shun, Vice-Chairman of Yuen Long District Council; Mr CHOY Wai-sum, Acting Superintendent of Police, Divisional Commander (Yuen Long Division); Mr LUK Chung-hung, Chairman of Traffic and Transport Committee of Yuen Long District Council; Mr Paul LAU, Regional Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (New Territories North); Ms LAM Chi-mei and Ms CHAN Kellyjackie, Publicity Officers of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol. About 1 000 senior citizens and a number of representatives of minor ethnic groups living in Yuen Long area attended the ceremony to show their supports. In the ceremony, elderly audiences received road safety messages through educational drama, singing performance and road safety quiz. The event was well participated by the audiences.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests and the elderly road safety ambassadors conducted a bus parade to disseminate road safety messages to all elderly pedestrian in Yuen Long.
