The Road Safety Council (the Council) reaches its 47th Anniversary this year. Although due to the pandemic we are unable to hold our usual anniversary ceremony, our determination to promote road safety is steadfast. The Council has launched a series of online activities to enhance road safety awareness of the whole society. Hong Kong’s road safety situation has been well maintained in 2020. The annual number of fatal accidents has dropped to 98, which is the lowest figure recorded in Hong Kong since 1953. Despite that Hong Kong's road safety has continues to improve, however, we have to keep up our effort. One single fatal traffic accident is far too many. We have notice a surge of bicycle related accident in the past year. The Council will step up its effort to promote cycling safety. Cyclist and all road users are reminded to maintain an "attentive, patient and law-abiding" attitude at all time, in a bid to achieve the target of "Zero Accidents on the Road". Lastly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Council members, government officials and other stakeholders to their unfailing support throughout the years.
