Seat Belts
Pre-requisite
-
- Make routine checks of seat belts.
- Replace the seat belts immediately if they are damaged, worn or otherwise defective.

Before Moving Off
- Points to note when wearing a seat belt:
- Put the diagonal belt over your shoulder against your chest and the clavicle;
- Put the lap belt across your hips instead of abdomen; and
- Make sure the straps are not twisted and are fastened tight.
- Ensure that the seat belt are not trapped by a door or under a seat.
- Seat belts for children are preferred to be fitted in the rear seat.

Seat Belt Safety
- All drivers (including private cars, taxis, mini-buses, buses and lorries) must wear a seat belt when driving except reversing, parking or make a 3-point-turn.
- Passengers aged 15 or above are responsible to wear the seat belts properly by themselves.
- Make sure the straps are not twisted and properly worn. A loosely worn seat belt may inflict more serious injuries in case of accident.
- Airbags are no substitute of driving safety.
- Both the driver and passengers of a private car or a taxi must wear seat belts (unless otherwise exempted by the Commissioner for Transport on medical grounds or in the course of reversing, a three-point turn or moving forward and reversing into a parking space).
- With effect from 1st August 2004, all passengers of a public light bus fitted with seat belts must wear them . Those who fail to comply may be prosecuted (unless otherwise exempted by the Commissioner for Transport on medical grounds).
