Road Safety Funding

Funding

The Road Safety Council has two main sources of funding: Government funding and Private Sector sponsorship. Both are integral to successful campaigning for a high standard of road safety in Hong Kong.

Maximising Resources

For the 2008-2009 financial year, the Government allocated the Council HK$3.2 million through the Transport and Housing Bureau.    This amount went towards education and publicity programmes.

In addition, the Council accepted another HK$ 600,000 from commercial partners for the staging of road safety events and the production of publicity materials to promote messages on anti-drink driving, safe cycling and road safety for elderly pedestrians.

Our Road Safety Campaign Committee worked with the Transport and Housing Bureau to prepare a work plan that ensured resources were spent appropriately and created positive value. The Committee also ensured that publicity activities met designated parameters and remained within budget.

The Government's annual subvention to the Hong Kong Road Safety Association which also promotes road safety, totalled HK$ 700,000. This fund covered the Association's administrative costs as well as the cost of uniforms and equipment required throughout the year.

The Council remains confident that its funding, across all sectors of its work, has resulted in a well co-ordinated and effective action plan on road safety.
