Hong Kong's high standard of road safety is due to the generous financial and manpower support provided by many sectors of the community. The Government, through the Transport and Housing Bureau (THB), supply the Road Safety Council with a large portion of its funding. We also accept and are grateful for the openhandedness of private companies, organisations and multi-national corporations who kindly sponsor our publications and activities.
The Road Safety Campaign Committee annually maps out and assesses funding for the Council's goals in the year ahead. The informed decisions are based on high-ranking issues with information and statistics supplied by the Transport Department, Campaign and programme proposals are endorsed by the Council with funding distributed to the Police and Transport Department when required. Expenditure reviews ensure the Council's spending is not undue.
A number of Government departments, in partnership with the private sector, actively advocate and provide for our campaigns through participating in road safety educational programmes and hosting their own initiatives.
The Hong Kong Road Safety Association (HKRSA) incomparably promotes road safety. The Government's annual subvention, which in 2007/2008 totalled HKD659,000, funds administrative costs, as well as uniforms and equipment expenses.
