Road Safety Funding

Funding

The Road Safety Council has two main sources of funding: government funding and private sector sponsorship.  Both are integral to successful campaigning for a high standard of road safety in Hong Kong.

Maximising Resources

For the 2009-2010 financial year, the Government allocated the Council HK$3.2 million through the Transport and Housing Bureau for education and publicity programmes.  In addition, the Council accepted another HK$750,000 from our commercial partners for staging road safety events and producing publicity materials to promote road safety messages in particular anti-drink driving, and HK$70,000 from District Councils for joint publicity programmes on safe cycling and road safety for elderly pedestrians.

Our Road Safety Campaign Committee works with the Transport and Housing Bureau to prepare a work plan and ensure resources are spent appropriately and meaningfully.  The Committee also ensures that publicity activities meet designated parameters and remain within budget.

The Council remains confident that with its funding, across all sectors of its work, a well coordinated and effective action plan on promoting road safety can be implemented.
