Roadworks

Hong Kong, with a good traffic network, has one of the highest vehicle densities in the world. Road repair and maintenance works, mainly handled and supervised by the Highways Department, are carried out on Hong Kong’s 1,900km road everyday. All contracted road works carried out in Hong Kong must comply with the “Code of Practice for the Lighting, Signing and Guarding of Road Works” compiled by the Highways Department. Every road user, especially driver, should have some understanding of the Code of Practice.

When you are driving on the roads where road works is carried out nearby, please pay attention to the followings:

This can make you readily visible to the road workers and other road users.
  • Keep appropriate distance between you and the vehicle in front and slow down
